Mumbai Reports 20,181 COVID Cases
Mumbai, Jan 6 : The single-day tally of Covid-19 cases in Mumbai crossed 20,000-mark as 20,181 patients were found across the city in the last 24 hours, according to official data released on Thursday.
It further said four persons died of the virus whereas 2,837 others were discharged after being fully cured of the pandemic.
Considering the steady rise in the number of infections, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation chief Iqbal Chahal has asked private hospitals to increase beds for COVID patients.
Now, the question arises will the city witness a complete lockdown as earlier Chahal and Mayor Kishori Pednekar had warned that if the tally goes beyond 20k then Mumbai will go under lockdown.
However, Health Minister Rajesh Tope stated that a decision about lockdown and stopping local trains will be taken after the meeting between CM Uddhav Thackeray and NCP chief Sharad Pawar.
Though denying the option of complete lockdown at the moment, the minister asserted that more curbs are on the way to control crowding.
