Neeraj Chopra gets big honour, Paris Olympics jersey included in World Athletics Heritage Collection

Neeraj Chopra: Neeraj Chopra is counted among the great players of India. He is the only player for India to win two medals in Javelin in the Olympics. He created history by winning the gold medal in Tokyo Olympics 2020. After this he won the silver medal in Paris Olympics 2024. Now his Paris Olympics jersey has been included in the World Athletics Heritage Collection.

Star javelin player Neeraj Chopra is among the 23 players whose tournament artefacts have been included in the World Athletics Heritage Collection which are currently on display on World Athletics Heritage’s online 3D platform. Chopra, who became India’s first Olympic gold medalist in athletics at the Tokyo Olympics, has donated the tournament T-shirt he wore at the Paris Games this year.

Was left behind by Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem

Neeraj Chopra had finished second behind Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem (92.97m) at the Paris Olympics with a throw of 89.45m. Apart from Chopra, Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchykh (World Athletics’ Women’s Field Event Athlete of the Year) and her fellow Paris Olympic medalist Thea Lafond are among the athletes whose competition artefacts have been included in the heritage collection.

Fourth Indian to win two medals in Olympics

Neeraj Chopra is the first Indian player to win gold in the World Athletics Championship. He won the gold medal in the World Athletics Championships in Budapest last year. Apart from this, he is the fourth Indian player to win two medals in Olympics in independent India. Sushil Kumar, PV Sindhu, Manu Bhaker have also won two medals in Olympics.
