Chhath is such a great festival which is celebrated with great pomp and show by people not only in UP and Bihar but also in foreign countries. Chhath fast is considered one of the most difficult fasts. Preparations for Chhath Puja start months in advance. Many types of dishes are prepared in homes, but the festival of Chhath is considered incomplete without Thekua. Thekua is the main prasad of Chhath. Thekua made from flour, jaggery and sugar tastes very tasty. Thekua tastes so tasty that even sweets seem bland. First thekua is offered to the Sun God and then it is distributed as Prasad. Ingredients for Thekua

About 2 cups wheat flour, half cup semolina, half cup jaggery, 1 teaspoon fennel, some chopped almonds, some chopped raisins, 2 teaspoons grated dry coconut, ground green cardamom, 1/4 cup desi ghee and thekua for frying. Ghee or any other oil.

Thekua Recipe

First step- To make Thekua, first break the jaggery into pieces and dissolve it in ¼ cup of water. If you want, you can put water on the gas to heat and dissolve the jaggery while stirring. Now filter the jaggery water and add semolina to it.

Second step- Mix flour, all the nuts and other things in a bowl. Now melt the desi ghee and mix it. After mixing all the things, add the solution of jaggery and semolina and knead a hard dough for thekua. If you want, you can also use some milk to knead the dough.

Third step- You have to knead slightly stiff dough for Thekua. Keep the dough for 10 minutes and then take a ball and knead it with your hands to make a round ball. Now press the dough a little and make any design with the help of a fork. Molds for making Thekua are also available in the market.

Fourth step- Heat oil in a pan and keep the gas flame medium. Now add thekua one by one and let it fry for some time. Now turn the thekua and cook well until it turns golden brown. You have to prepare all the thekua in this manner.

Fifth step- Now when these Thekua cools down a bit, keep them in an airtight container or steel box. You can use Thekua in Chhath Puja or eat it with food just like that. Thekua does not spoil for 10-15 days. You can eat them anytime.
