Hate Speech Against Muslims Violates Constitution: CPI (M)
New Delhi, Dec 24: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Friday condemned the hate speeches and incitement to violence against Muslim at the Dharam Sansad in Haridwar and termed it a “flagrant violation of the Constitution and legal frame work”.
“The speeches are akin to supporting terrorist acts including against former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. It could continue without hindrance for three days because of the impunity such people enjoy under the BJP-led governments,” the CPI (M) said in a statement.
Criticising the delay in filing a FIR, the party said it was a mockery of law as it does not name the main perpetrators of this assault on the Constitution even as videos of the proceedings clearly show the identities of those guilty.
“We demanded the immediate arrest for the promotion not just of hate speech but of incitement to violence,” it said.
Meanwhile, the police on Thursday filed an FIR after four days of the incident following outrage and condemnation on social media.
The FIR was filed after a complaint by Trinamool Congress leader and RTI activist Saket Gokhale. It named Jitender Narayan alias Waseem Rizvi, who was earlier Chairman of the Shia Waqf Board of Uttar Pradesh.
The FIR says he and others gave “derogatory and inflammatory statement against Islam” at the conclave.
The three-day ‘Dharam Sansad’, held from December 16 to 19 at Ved Niketan Dham at Bhopatwala in Haridwar, was organised by Yati Narsinghan and the priest of the Dasna temple.
The ‘Dharam Sansad’ was attended by several religious leaders who allegedly exhorted violence against minorities and called for a ‘Hindu nation’.
