Nandankanan Zoo’s Foundation Day Surprise: Four Unique Species Join the Animal Family
Bhubaneswar: The Nandankanan zoo in the city is set to unveil four new animal species to visitors and animal enthusiasts, marking an exciting addition to the zoological park’s diverse array of inhabitants. Starting December 29, visitors will have the opportunity to witness these new members, including a pair of wallabies and Livingstone’s turacos.
The wallabies, mid-sized marsupial mammals belonging to the kangaroo family, and Livingstone’s turacos, a distinctive species of birds in the family Musophagidae, have been carefully introduced from a private farm in Hyderabad. To ensure their well-being, the animals are currently undergoing quarantine in a special enclosure within the zoo.
Once the new arrivals acclimate to their surroundings, they will be transferred to designated enclosures, allowing visitors to witness their fascinating behaviors and characteristics. During this transition period, the animals will remain under the observation of veterinary experts to ensure a seamless adjustment.
The Nandankanan zoo, known for its commitment to wildlife conservation and education, is gearing up to showcase these unique additions to the public, coinciding with the zoo’s foundation day on December 29. Visitors can anticipate an engaging experience as they observe and learn about these captivating creatures.
In a related development, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) for Wildlife, Susanta Nanda, shared an additional piece of good news for the public. The zoo will remain open on December 25, a Monday and a holiday, responding to the significant demand from the public.
