New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Monday followed in the footsteps of Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, calling it quits to a debate-based program in Parliament’s own television channel, called Sansad TV.
Showing his support to the suspended MPs, he said in a statement here that he has distanced himself from his role as ‘host’ of the TV debate program ‘To the Point’.
He will keep himself away from this program until the suspension of 12 members was revoked and the atmosphere of harmony in the work of House and Parliament TV was restored.
The MP alleged that Parliament TV has also become a part of this problem. Many people have remarked that its Parliament TV camera in the House is tilted towards the ruling party and ignores the opposition members. Tharoor said the role of host of ‘To The Point’ was a matter of pride for him and he accepted it in accordance with the best traditions of India’s parliamentary democracy, in which the members of both the parties and the parliamentary institutions, despite political differences, work together.
