UP: Death Penalty for 31 on Atrocities against Women

Lucknow: On the direction of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, under the state-wide Mission Shakti Abhiyan, for the safety, respect and justice to women and girls, 31 accused have been awarded death penalty by courts in one year between October 2020 to October 2021.
Giving the above information, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Avnish Kumar Awasthi has said here on Monday that during the said period, the Prosecution Department has succeeded in getting the death penalty to 31 accused through effective action.

Additional Chief Secretary, Home Avnish Kumar Awasthi also informed that as a result of effective advocacy done by the Prosecution Department in the cases going on in various districts of the state during the said period, 995 accused have been successful in getting life imprisonment.
Additional Chief Secretary, Home informed that during Mission Shakti Abhiyan, 1315 accused have been successful in getting 10 years or more than 10 years imprisonment in the cases going on in various courts. Similarly, 2553 accused have been successful in getting the sentence of less than 10 years imprisonment. Apart from this, 503 accused were punished with fine as well as bails of 18681 accused have been rejected.
