Odisha: STF seizes fake notes of face value Rs 41.16 Lakh

Bhubaneswar, Sep 3 : Special Task Force (STF), Odisha, has arrested a person from Sonepur district and seized gake Indian currency notes (FICN) of face value of more than Rs 41.16 lakh from his possession, sources said on Sunday.

The STF sources here said the raid was conducted near Ulunda, Sonepur on September 1 in an operation against an organised racket of printing and circulating FICN. The suths seized good quality FICN of face value more than Rs 41.16 Lakh.

One accused person namely Deepak Meher, of Matikhai Nuabasti under Ulunda Police station of Sonepur district was arrested and forwarded to the court of SDJM Birmaharajpur.

In this connection, a case under various sub-sections of section 489 (tampering with property mark) has been registered.

The seized FICNs will be sent to Reserve Bank of India. Note Mudrana Pvt. Ltd., Mudrana Nagar, Salaboni, PachimaMedinapore, West Bengal for examination and opinion.

The seized FICN are of the denominations of Rs 500 and meet many security features of a genuine note.

STF will add Unlawful Activities Prevention Act sections after getting an official forensic report as to whether these notes are of high quality or not.

It is suspected that these notes were brought from Chhattisgarh. There are more criminals involved in this racket.

STF has got vital clues and its personnel are working on those to crack the entire scam and arrest all the perpetrators.

To date, STF has seized FICN of face value more than Rs 1.19 Crores including this seizure.
