Joint Action Council, Sikkim, on Thursday expressed apprehensions over the Uniform Civil Code if and when it is implemented in the country. The Law Commission of India has issued a public notice asking for the views of the public and religious bodies across the country, Vice-President, JAC, Passang Sherpa said. “The Law Commission of India in a public notification has asked for public opinion on the issue before its implementation from across the nation. Eight lakh people have reacted, But so far nothing has happened in Sikkim” he said. “It needs to be discussed. JAC has decided to host a symposium on July 2 on the issue, Lawyers, politicians, religious bodies, Dzumsa (representatives of Lachen & Lachung public),non-governmental organisations and others are expected to put forward their respective views, Once the matter is discussed and conclusion arrived at, it will be forwarded to Union Law Commission,” he said. Sherpa ,has invited all interested people to participate in the July 2 discussions
