Wrestling Injustice
Protests don’t affect a country’s image. It is insensitivity of people in power – sports administrators in this case – that reflects poorly on reputation.
A protest is a symptom of an underlying problem. It also acts as a pressure relief valve. The decision of Delhi Police (perforce) to register an FIR on the basis of the sexual harassment allegations is a step in the right direction. It does, however, beg the question: Shouldn’t it have happened without the protest (and without SC’s knuckle)? And since it didn’t, Usha and others should understand why protests are necessary – and sometimes vital.
