Rohit Sharma: Will not get captaincy even in Champions Trophy, who will take command of Team India?
Rohit Sharma ODI Captain: The Indian cricket team’s tour of Australia is about to end. Now whatever may be the result of the last match, but in the meantime the issue of Rohit Sharma has gained momentum. He has been dropped from the playing eleven of the last test. If Rohit Sharma has isolated himself then this is also not a good sign. In such a situation, the biggest question is whether Rohit will be seen captaining the ODI series against England and the subsequent ICC Champions Trophy. Or the command in this big tournament will be handed over to some other player.
Team India will play its first match in Champions Trophy on 20th February.
Champions Trophy 2025 will start from 19th February, while Team India will be seen playing its first match against Bangladesh on 20th February. After this there will be a great competition on 23rd February. That means the teams of India and Pakistan will face each other. Although there is still time in this tournament, but for ICC tournaments all the participating teams have to announce their squads in advance. From the information coming out so far, it has been revealed that all the teams have to announce their squads by January 12, which means there is not much time left. Before the Champions Trophy, India has to play a three-match ODI series against England at home. It is believed that the Indian team for both will be announced simultaneously.
Will Hardik Pandya become the captain of ODI?
The way Rohit Sharma is not the captain in the last test against Australia, another question has deepened whether he will be the captain in the Champions Trophy. However, till now neither he has been removed from the post of Test captain nor any statement has come from BCCI in this regard. But whatever is happening is a matter of concern. If Rohit Sharma remains the captain in ODI then it is a different matter, but if he is dropped from this format too, then who will be the next captain. Although it is a far-fetched idea, it is possible that Hardik Pandya will replace him in ODIs. Hardik Pandya leaves Test and plays other two formats. Suryakumar Yadav is the captain of T20, but he has not been able to cement his place in ODI yet.
Indian team will also play 5 T20 matches against England
After the Australia series, Team India will first play a 5-match T20 series against England and after that there will be three ODI matches, which are going to be very important from the point of view of preparation for the Champions Trophy. In the year 2024, India has played only three ODI matches in total and has faced defeat in them. That means the Indian team’s preparation for ODI is not very solid. Which can prove costly in terms of the Champions Trophy. It remains to be seen what decision is taken by BCCI in the coming time regarding Champions Trophy and Rohit Sharma.
