Newborn Infant Rescued After Abduction from Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital

Bolangir: A newborn infant vanished from the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital (BBMCH) in Bolangir, only to be found later in Ghantapada village, Boudh district. The baby boy, born to Sushil Swain’s wife from Baradipadar village in Boudh district, was abducted shortly after birth.

According to reports, Sushil Swain admitted his wife to the obstetrics and gynecology department of BBMCH after she experienced labor pains on Thursday. Their joy turned into anguish when, on Friday morning, the baby was nowhere to be found.

A member of the Swain family had initially brought the newborn to the SNCU as per the doctor’s instructions. However, upon returning to inquire about the infant’s well-being, they were met with shocking news – the baby had been taken by someone else.

Frantic searches by the family proved futile, prompting them to lodge a complaint at the BBMCH outpost. Town police swiftly launched an investigation based on the filed complaint, while hospital authorities meticulously scrutinized CCTV footage in a bid to identify the abductor.

With the collaborative efforts of law enforcement and hospital staff, the missing infant was eventually traced to a couple residing in Ghantapada village, Boudh district. Reports suggest that the couple, dissatisfied with the birth of their own baby girl, resorted to abducting Sushil Swain’s son from the hospital.

This alarming incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the vulnerabilities within hospital security protocols and the dire consequences of gender discrimination. Authorities are now intensifying efforts to ensure the safety and security of all newborns within medical facilities, while the perpetrators are expected to face stringent legal repercussions for their actions.
