BCCI’s new secretary revealed, will replace Jay Shah
BCCI New Secretary: After Jay Shah became ICC President, the post of BCCI Secretary became vacant. Now big news has come regarding this post. The new secretary of BCCI has been revealed. BCCI President Roger Binny has appointed Devjit Saikia as the acting Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India i.e. BCCI. Devjit Saikia will replace Jay Shah, who recently took over as the new ICC chairman. Saikia, who hails from Assam, is a former first-class cricketer. He is currently the Joint Secretary of BCCI.
Roger Binny used his constitutional powers to appoint Saikia as the acting secretary until a permanent secretary was appointed under the BCCI rules and regulations. It is believed that Saikia will continue in this post till September next year, after which the post will be filled permanently. In the letter to Saikia, which is in the possession of PTI, Binny cited Clause 7(1)(d) of the BCCI constitution to hand over secretarial powers to an Assam official, who is also the advocate general of the state.
The post was vacant due to Jai Shah joining ICC
Jay Shah, the outgoing secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), took charge as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on December 1. He is the fifth Indian to lead this global organization. Shah, 36, was appointed BCCI secretary for the last five years. Shah replaced New Zealand’s Greg Barclay at the ICC, who was not interested in continuing in the post for a third consecutive term. Before Shah, late Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan and Shashank Manohar were the top-ranking Indians in ICC.
