Veteran Congress Leader Chiranjib Biswal Resigns Ahead of 2024 General Elections

Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the 2024 General Elections, veteran Congress leader Chiranjib Biswal announced his resignation from the national party on Saturday, marking a notable departure from his longstanding political affiliation.

Biswal tendered his resignation and formally submitted it to Odisha Pradesh Congress (PCC) president Sarat Pattanayak. In his resignation letter, the former two-time MLA and renowned cricketer expressed his decision to relinquish his primary membership of the Indian National Congress.

“I hereby tender my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress,” read Biswal’s resignation letter, signaling a significant shift in his political allegiance.

Chiranjib Biswal, the son of the late Basant Kumar Biswal, a Congress stalwart and former Odisha Deputy Chief Minister, has had a distinguished political career. He was first elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly on a Congress ticket from Tirtol constituency in the 2004 elections, showcasing his early prowess in state politics. Additionally, Biswal secured victory in the Assembly elections of 2014, this time representing Jagatsinghpur.

Biswal’s decision to resign from the Congress comes at a crucial juncture, with the 2024 General Elections looming on the horizon.
