Thunderstorm Warning: IMD Forecasts Three Days of Lightning Activity in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a thunderstorm warning for Odisha, indicating three consecutive days of lightning activity across various districts. The forecast, announced on Monday, suggests that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in several districts until 8:30 am on Tuesday.

The districts likely to be affected include Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, and Kendrapada.

In addition to thunderstorm activity, there is a forecast for light to moderate rain/thundershowers at many places in the state. Bhubaneswar may experience partly cloudy skies with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 35°C and 23°C, respectively.

The IMD also predicts a gradual rise in daytime temperatures by 2-3°C over the subsequent three days.

On April 9, a yellow warning has been issued for thunderstorm with lightning in select districts, including Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada. Light to moderate rain/thundershowers are expected at one or two places in these districts, as well as in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, and Bargarh.

The yellow warning continues on April 10 for several districts, including Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada. Similar weather conditions are anticipated in additional districts, including Keonjhar, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, and Dhenkanal.

On April 11, light to moderate rain/thundershower may continue at one or two places in several districts, including Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada. On April 12, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, and Gajapati districts may experience similar weather conditions. Dry weather is expected to prevail across the state thereafter.
