Odisha Braces for Hotter Days as Mercury Soars: IMD Forecast
Bhubaneswar: As February sets in, Odisha finds itself bracing for hotter days ahead, with the mercury already on the rise across the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued forecasts indicating a continuation of the warming trend, signaling a departure from the typically moderate temperatures associated with this time of year.
On Tuesday, the maximum temperature in Odisha soared to 35°C, accompanied by a minimum temperature as high as 24°C. Notably, 13 districts in the state recorded day temperatures surpassing 33°C, indicating a significant departure from the seasonal norms. IMD experts attribute this unseasonal warmth to the influx of warm air into the region, driven by the El Nino effect.
This surge in temperatures marks a stark contrast to the unusually cold winters experienced in Odisha this year. The abrupt shift from cold to hot weather in the first week of February has caught many residents off guard, prompting concerns about potential implications for health and daily life.
The prevailing weather conditions, characterized by hot and dry weather, are expected to persist in the coming days, according to forecasts from the IMD. With temperatures projected to rise by 3°C to 7°C in the near future, residents are advised to take necessary precautions to stay safe and comfortable amidst the heatwave-like conditions.
Adding a twist to the weather forecast, the IMD has also predicted the possibility of light rain or thundershowers in several parts of Odisha from January 10 to 13. While coastal areas may experience some relief in the form of rain, interior Odisha is expected to receive more significant rainfall during this period.
The prospect of rain offers a glimmer of hope for residents grappling with the sweltering heat, providing potential respite from the scorching temperatures.
