Former Financial Consultant Convicted in Bribery Case: Sentenced to Rigorous Imprisonment

Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court has sentenced Laxminarayan Satapathy, a former Financial Consultant in the office of the District Project Co-ordinator (DPC), Sarba Sikhya Abhijan (SSA), Rayagada, to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for 2 years and 3 years under section 7 and 13(2) of the PC Act, 1988, respectively. The conviction comes in the wake of a bribery case that implicated Satapathy in corrupt practices.

The court, in its verdict, also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Satapathy for each count of conviction. In the event of default in the payment of the fine, the court ruled that Satapathy would have to undergo an additional three months of rigorous imprisonment.

Crucially, the court emphasized that both sentences would run concurrently, indicating that Satapathy will serve both the 2-year and 3-year terms simultaneously.

The case revolved around allegations of bribery, and the court’s judgment serves as a stern warning against malpractices within government offices. The conviction of a former Financial Consultant highlights the commitment of the legal system to root out corruption at all levels, ensuring accountability and transparency in public administration.

Satapathy, upon receiving the verdict, was promptly sent to jail custody to commence serving his sentence.
