Bhubaneswar: The aftermath of the sentencing in the Pari murder case saw the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) directing sharp criticism at Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, with allegations of interference and attempts to obstruct justice. Pranab Prakash Das, a prominent figure within the BJD, took to social media to assail Pradhan, accusing him of orchestrating efforts to shield the perpetrator of the heinous crime.
Das lambasted Pradhan, who holds the portfolios of Education and Skill Development, asserting that the engagement of high-profile lawyers to prolong and manipulate legal proceedings was indicative of attempts to serve political interests rather than ensure justice. He further asserted that the people of Odisha had keenly observed the unfolding events surrounding the case.
Accusing Pradhan of politicizing the tragedy and resorting to deceitful tactics, Das emphasized the significance of the court’s verdict as a testament to the pursuit of truth and justice. He urged Pradhan to introspect and acknowledge the ramifications of his alleged complicity in misleading statements pertaining to the Pari murder case.
The BJD leader contended that Pradhan’s actions amounted to a transgression against morality and justice, warranting a public apology to the citizens of Odisha. The case, which shook the conscience of the nation, involved the abduction and subsequent tragic demise of Pari, a five-year-old girl from Nayagarh’s Jadupur village, whose skeletal remains were discovered days after her disappearance.
The gravity of the situation escalated when Pari’s parents resorted to desperate measures, including attempted self-immolation in front of the state Assembly, to demand justice for their daughter. Following intense scrutiny and investigation, the Special Children Court in Nayagarh pronounced the main accused, reportedly a juvenile, guilty and sentenced them to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.
