Bhubaneswar: To promote the millet mission Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has requested the women to add millet to their ingridients while making Prasad. He has also requested to women to offer millets and other delicacies prepared from millets as an offering to Goddess Mahalakshmi for the upcoming Margashira gurubar festival celebrated on every Thursday of the Odia month of Margashira.
“Millets have been included in the mid-day meals programme of the State Government. If millet items could be tweaked, it would cater to needs and palate of the younger generation,” said CM Majhi. He added, “Government canteens, schools and hospitals will be supplied with millets”.
In order to increase the demand for millets, besides the promotion for millets, plans for attracting farmers towards millet cultivation are being worked out. Provisions to export millets from Odisha are also on the line.
Millets is gaining global recognition due to its health benefits and economic importance. A millet hub is also to be built in Odisha. Arrangements for millet production and selling is been done. After inaugurating the two-day, International Symposium on Shree Anna and forgotten foods, CM Majhi urged the women to offer millets Prasad to the deity.
