Historic Cuttack Bali Yatra Is The Symbol Of Utkal Maritime Trade, Starts On Today
Cuttack: The historic Bali Yatra of Cuttack is about to begin from today. Since ancient times, it has been a witness to our maritime tradition. History says that 2000 years ago, Odia Sadhaba pua (traders) started their journey to trade islands like Java and Sumatra on this very day. Sadhaba bohus (wives of traders) wishe their husbands a ride on the boats. For this reason, Odia women are floating boats made of banana stems in various rivers and ponds today to commemorate the trade.
To commemorate the festival, Bali Yatra is organized in various coastal areas with great fanfare. Cuttack Bali Yatra showcases various domestic and foreign trade in one fair. Bali Yatra is a journey of the glorious history of our Utkal maritime trade.
Chief Minister Mohan Majhi will inaugurate the historic Cuttack Bali Yatra by performing a boita-bandan on the Cuttack Mahanadi river bank this evening. Ambassadors and High Commissioners of 13 countries will participate in it. It will continue till the 22nd.
