Suspicious Chips Found on Pigeon in Odisha’s Dhenkanal District Spark Spy Concerns

Bhubaneswar: In a peculiar incident reported from Odisha’s Dhenkanal district, a pigeon was discovered with suspicious chips fitted to its legs, raising concerns of potential espionage activities. The bizarre discovery unfolded in Launadi village under the Sarangi forest range, where the pigeon sought refuge in a villager’s house during a thunderstorm on Sunday.

According to reports, the pigeon was unable to fly away due to the strong winds accompanying the thunderstorm, prompting the homeowner to investigate. Upon closer examination, the homeowner found chips attached to the bird’s legs and promptly alerted the local police.

Responding to the call, the police arrived at the village and took possession of the pigeon before contacting the Forest department. Subsequently, officials from the Sarangi forest range team took charge of the pigeon for further investigation.

Initial suspicions arose regarding the pigeon’s potential involvement in espionage activities, given the presence of microchips on its legs. However, authorities were unable to decipher the contents of the chips as they were not in an Indian language. The chips have been sent to the office in Bhubaneswar for examination, where laboratory analysis will reveal their purpose.

This incident evokes memories of a similar occurrence last year in Paradip, where fishermen discovered a pigeon suspected of being used for spying aboard their boat.

The discovery of suspicious chips on the pigeon underscores the need for vigilance and scrutiny, especially in remote areas, to prevent unauthorized surveillance activities. Further updates on this peculiar case are awaited as authorities delve deeper into the investigation.

Stay tuned for more developments on this unfolding story.
