Odisha: ‘He is doing Namaz several times’: Orissa High Court commutes death sentence of Sheikh Asif Ali, who was convicted for rape and murder of a 6 year old girl
The court remarked, “Keeping in view the ratio laid down in the decisions discussed above, it is borne out of the record that the offence was committed against a girl child aged about six years in a most horrendous, devilish and barbaric manner, but the case is based on circumstantial evidence and there is no material on record that the crime was committed in a pre-planned manner.”
Somewhat more horrendous happened in recent times in a place in Nayagarh district in Odisha when a five year old girl was subjected to equally heart-wrenching rape and murder which was at last swept under the carpet through a state police level probe.
It still rattles the conscience of the nation and world over when in 2012, in Delhi, they didn’t just rape her, they played with her intestine. This was in Delhi and they named her Nirbhaya.
In another shocker, in 2017 they didn’t just rape her, they hung her on a tree. This was in Unnao and they named her Nirbhaya 2. The culprit roamed free for quite some time till law of the land caught up with and pronounced someone guilty. But what happened ?
People forgot the issue in a month or so and life went on as usual.
Rather in recent times, in 2019 it was not that she was subjected to a gruesome rape and murder hanging her by the knee to death.
The nation was stunned when in Hyderabad the victim, a doctor was gang raped and burnt alive on the road side.
In another incident in Odisha, way back, a lady was gang raped and her boy friend was tied to a tree leaving the victim in abject condition waylaid in that dreary darkness.
Then what we do, rallying around with candles appealing for justice. It took years to apprehend the culprits minus the main master mind.
Names are kept unmentioned because of certain reasons.
From ages to 2019, all we are doing is burning candles, blackening our DP, commenting on a few fb pages and forgetting it within a week. Days pass by.
In 2024…..They brutally Raped & killed a Resident doctor very recently leaving an air of unforgivable crime.
Perhaps, “It’s time to burn the culprits and not the candles. It’s high time for the government to pass a bill for capital punishment for rapists. When currency can be changed overnight, when special session can be called to increase the salary of politicians, when Parliament can remain open all night for trust votes, wondering what is delaying to pass a stringent law against rape”.
