Jashipur: In a significant crackdown on illegal opium cultivation, a joint operation led by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Karanjia and the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Jashipur Police Station, along with Excise and Forest officials, resulted in the destruction of approximately 13,000 opium plants in two Gram Panchayats (GPs) under the jurisdiction of Jashipur Police Station.
The operation, conducted with precision and coordination, targeted illicit opium cultivation in Dhalabani GP and Podagarh GP, both situated within the Jashipur Police Station’s purview. Acting on reliable information received, law enforcement authorities swiftly mobilized resources to address the issue of illegal poppy cultivation plaguing the region.
Under the supervision of the SDPO and the IIC, accompanied by the Tahsildar of Jashipur as the Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses, the operation unfolded with meticulous planning. Excise and Forest personnel joined forces to uproot and destroy the illicit opium plants, signaling a firm stance against narcotics-related activities.
The joint team first descended upon Vill-Thakurgoda in Dhalabani GP, where an extensive illegal opium cultivation operation was underway. Over 10,000 opium plants spanning an area of 21 decimal were unearthed and subsequently eradicated. The estimated value of the uprooted opium plants at this location amounted to approximately ₹20,00,000.
In a parallel effort, the operation extended to Vill-Bundeiposi in Podagarh GP, uncovering another illicit opium cultivation site. Here, approximately 3,000 opium plants spread across 7 decimal were discovered and destroyed. The value of the uprooted opium plants at this location was estimated to be around ₹6,00,000.
The eradication of illegal opium cultivation marks a significant victory in the fight against narcotics-related crimes in the region.
