Odisha Shivers as Koraput Braces for Another Chilly Night Amidst Dense Fog

Bhubaneswar: As temperatures continue to plunge across the state, Koraput, for the second consecutive day, emerged as the coldest place in Odisha, recording a night temperature of 7 degrees Celsius—5.7 degrees below the normal range, according to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre’s latest report on Tuesday.

Daringbadi in Kandhamal, with a temperature of 8.5 degrees Celsius, was the only other region reporting temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours, highlighting the widespread chill gripping the state.

In contrast, the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack experienced milder conditions, recording temperatures of 16.9 and 16.5 degrees Celsius, respectively. This marks a deviation of 2.3 and 2.7 degrees above the normal range, providing a relative respite from the biting cold.

The meteorological agency forecasts no significant change in night temperatures over the next 4-5 days, indicating that the cold spell is likely to persist.

However, the drop in temperatures is not the only challenge residents are facing. Dense fog has become a persistent issue, causing disruptions in traffic on busy roads and highways throughout the state. In Rourkela, visibility plummeted to below 50 meters this morning due to very dense fog, while Phulbani, Sonepur, Kendrapada, and Paradip also grappled with reduced visibility.

Various regions, including Bhubaneswar, Koraput, Bhawanipatna, Jharsuguda, and Keonjhar, witnessed shallow to moderate fog, further complicating daily activities.

In response to these weather conditions, the Meteorological Office had issued a yellow warning for dense fog in specific areas. Until 8:30 am on Tuesday, places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Koraput were cautioned about dense fog. The warning continues for the subsequent 24 hours in Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Koraput.
