Odisha Braces for Chilly Spell as Mercury Dips Below 10.0°C in Multiple Regions
Bhubaneswar: As winter tightens its grip on the eastern state of Odisha, residents are experiencing a notable drop in temperatures, with the mercury plummeting to new lows. In the last 24 hours, a staggering 14 places in Odisha reported minimum temperatures dipping below 10.0°C, sending shivers across the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional center in Bhubaneswar highlighted the unprecedented chill, revealing that even the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded the season’s lowest nighttime temperatures at 13°C.
The most remarkable observation comes from G. Udayagiri in the Kandhamal district, where the mercury touched a bone-chilling 5.0°C for the first time this season. This significant drop in temperature underscores the onset of a cold wave in the state.
Several other places witnessed nighttime temperatures below 15°C, adding to the winter chill that has enveloped the region. Notable among these locations are Phulpani (7°C), Kirei (7.5°C), Angul (8°C), Koraput (8°C), Semiliguda (8.4°C), Daringbadi (8.5°C), Keonjahar (8.6°C), Rourkela (8.6°C), Sundargarh (8.8°C), Bhawanipatna (8.9°C), Ranitaal (9°C), Jharsuguda (9.2°C), and Sonepur (10°C).
The India Meteorological Department has forecasted that there will be no immediate respite from the cold spell, with minimum temperatures expected to persist until Sunday. Additionally, shallow to moderate fog is predicted to blanket several parts of Odisha during the early morning hours, further contributing to the wintry conditions.
