Angry Hippo Scares A Lion Away, Internet Asks, ”Who Is The King Now?”

It’s a widely held assumption that lions rule the forest and that no other animal dares to challenge the apex predator. This is why, when a video of a hippopotamus chasing away a lion surfaced online, it left people with questions.

However, a recent viral video has made people question the old adage. The dramatic video shows an aggressive hippopotamus scaring away a lion that was drinking water from a lake.

The video has been shared on the Instagram page Latest Sightings – Kruger. The post was captioned as ”Angry hippo charges lion drinking her home.” The incident was captured in South Africa’s Kapama Private Game Reserve.

The lion is seen sipping water as the video begins, standing on the brink of a water body. The angry hippo, from the middle of the water, charges at the big cat. Seemingly scared by the unexpected attack, the lion is seen fleeing the spot towards the end of the clip. A couple of other lions could also be seen running away from the hippo. The video makes it clear that the hippo is attempting to save its young ones from the lion.

So far, the clip has garnered more than 9.5k views and tons of reactions. While some guessed it was a mother hippo protecting her calves, others poked fun saying the animal didn’t like anyone drinking from its home.

One person wrote, “Mother & calf bond is extremely close & she is highly protective of her offspring, the lions weren’t welcome at her waterhole.” Another comment read, “The walk back like she just won a medal.”

A third person commented, “Hate it when my home is drunk from” and a fourth person said, “he just wanted to remind them who’s boss.”
