Youth, 50 Monkeys Killed In Separate Lightning Strike in Balasore
Balasore: A youth died and more than 50 monkeys were killed in separate lightning strikes in Odisha’s Balasore district on Monday evening.
The deceased youth has been identified as Madhu Dadai, a resident of Devog village of Baliapal block in the district.
According to reports, the incident occurred while Madhu was returning home on his bicycle on Monday evening when he was struck by lightning while he was crossing a field and fell to the ground.
Meanwhile, at least 50 monkeys, who had taken shelter on a tree to escape a sudden thundershower in Baliapal village under Godsahi block of Jaleswar in Balasore district, were killed in a lightning strike on Monday evening.
The tragic incident occurred when the monkeys were perching on a 150-year-old tamarind tree in the backyard of one Pratap Majhi in the evening, villagers said. Villagers spotted carcasses of at least 50 monkeys lying below the tree after the thundershower and lightning stopped.
