Superfast Express train’s engine gets detached, Runs without coaches in Odisha; Passengers safe

Balasore: A major train mishap was averted on late Saturday night after all the bogies of Howrah-Puri superfast express got separated from the engine near Nekurasuni station in Medinapur district of West Bengal, bordering Odisha’s Balasore district.

The engine ran for around 500 metres leaving behind the bogies. The incident took place at around 1.30 am. The reason of the incident is unclear.

However, no passengers have reported any injuries.

Railway technical officials from Kharagpur division rushed to the spot and reattached the bogies with the train which was on its way to Puri.

The passengers had to wait for around six hours on the track in the midnight. After the technical experts reconnected the bogies with the engine with proper checking of coupling, it resumed journey.

The incident led to delay of the train for around six hours.

Railways launched a probe into the incident if any lapses in the coupling process, said an official.
