Puri, April 21: The Sea Beach police have arrested Assistant sub-inspector of PCR no. 5 Akshyay Kumar Mullick for extorting money from the caretaker of an Ashram.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Mihir Kumar Panda, accused ASI Mullick reached the Ashram under the sea beach PS limits on April 13 at about 11.30 pm in response to a distress call.
Instead of acting professionally he allegedly threatened the Ashram caretaker extorted Rs 7500 and left.
The Ashram caretaker later lodged a complaint with the Superintendent of police on the incident.
After a thorough probe into the incident by a senior police officer it was found ASI Mullick was guilty of the offence.
The SP suspended the ASI for dereliction of duty while a criminal case has been registered against him in the Sea Beach police station under section 392 of IPC and he was arrested.
The accused ASI would be forwarded to the court on Friday, the Additional SP said.
