Bhubaneswar, June 28: In a tragic incident, five members of a wedding party died and nine were injured after a truck ran over the wedding procession on NH 20 near Sathighar Sahi in Keonjhar district in the wee hours of Wednesday.
All five died on the spot. The deceased included three from the groom’s side, including the nephew of the groom, and two from Sathighar Sahi, the bride’s village.
Sources said while six of the injured are undergoing treatment in the Keonjhar district headquarters hospital, three of the injured have been shifted to Cuttack.
After the accident, the truck involved in the accident fled from the spot.
Sources said when the accident occurred just a few metres away from the house of the bride when the groom from Manpur village under Harichandanpur block was going on a procession to Sathighar Sahi for the marriage.
A pall of gloom prevailed over the village, and the marriage was postponed after the accident, sources said.
