A man was sentenced to life imprisonment by an SDJM court in Rourkela today, for the murder of a woman in June 2017. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 2,000 on the convict.
The accused, identified as Anil Xalxo, of Kadalibahal village under Bisra police station limits of Sundargarh district. The sentence was awarded after hearing 11 witnesses.
According to the information, Anil had beaten one Surei to death when she was trying to mediate between the latter and his wife when they were indulged in a quarrel over a family feud on June 24, 2017. Surei was reportedly mediating between the duo and hellping them sort out their issues. However, the matter flared up and Anil, in a fit of rage, started beating up Surei with an iron rod. As Surei suffered critical injuries, she was immediately rushed to a hospital but she succumbed during treatment.
Later, the deceased’s family member filed a written at Bisra police station, basing on which the police registered a case and arrested Anil, informed public prosecutor Swaroop Ranjan Rath.
