Odisha: Another Jumbo Carcass Found In Athagarh

In a saddening incident, another case of poaching, a carcass of an elephant with injuries on the trunk was found at Nuataila cashew orchard in Athagarh forest division.

According to sources, the carcass of the elephant was found with injuries on its trunk in Nuataila cashew orchard. Though the tusks of the elephant are intact, the cause of the death is yet to be ascertained.

On February 9, 2023 an elephant had been killed yet again in Simlipal forest range of Mayurbhanj district of Odisha said reliable reports.

The incident took place in Gopinathpur Beat area of ​​Pietabata Range in Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. An investigation is still underway by the forest officials. Three or four days ago, the elephant was hunted and its teeth cut off, said Simlipal Deputy director.

Meanwhile, Forest department officials have reached the spot and launched an investigation into the matter.

It is worthwhile to mention here that the Athagarh forest division is in the news for a quite long time for unabated elephant deaths in the region. Besides, the forest division recently hogged the headlines after a poacher allegedly died under Forest department custody.
