Low Pressure In Bay Of Bengal On May 5; Clear Picture On Cyclone Later: IMD DG

Bhubaneswar: During summer, On May 5, a low pressure area is expected to develop over south Bay of Bengal area informed India Meteorological Department (IMD) Director General, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra on Saturday.

According to Mohapatra, there are possibilities that this low-pressure area might intensify into a depression. “Only after the low-pressure forms, we can say whether it will further intensify into a cyclone or not,” said Mohapatra. A clear picture regarding it is likely to appear around May 1.

As per Mohapatra, a clear picture is likely to emerge around May 1.

“I appeal to people not to panic as no forecast relating to cyclone has been issued. IMD is keeping a close watch and necessary information will be shared only after low pressure area develops,” said Mohapatra.

The IMD DG further said that usually the conditions remain conducive for formation of cyclone during the month of May (pre-monsoon season).

“A complete picture will emerge only after the low pressure area develops,” Mohapatra reiterated.
