Heat wave condition to prevail in Odisha- IMD

Bhubaneswar, April 12: An intense heat wave condition continued to prevail over several parts of Odisha with mercury rising over 40 degree Celsius at several places in the state.


Met source said the maximum temperatures observed appreciable rise at one or two places over the districts of South Coastal Odisha and North Interior Odisha and no large change elsewhere over the districts of Odisha.
The highest maximum temperature of 41.6 degree Celsius was recorded at Baripada while the lowest minimum temperature of 19.0 degree Celsius was recorded at Phulbani in the plains of Odisha.


Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in several districts of Odisha for the next five days.
The Odisha government had already closed all schools, both private and government, till April 16 next in view of the rising day temperature and the gruelling heat wave condition prevailing in most parts of the state.
The maximum temperature (Day temperature) is very likely to gradually rise further by 2- 3 degree Celsius at many places over the districts of Odisha during the next 2 days Maximum temperature (Day temperature) is likely to be more than 40 0C and above normal by 3-5 0C at a few places over the districts of Odisha during next 4 days.


As many as seven places in the state witnessed day temperatures hovering over 40 Degree Celsius on Wednesday.
Baripada recorded the highest day temperature at 41.6 degree Celsius, followed by Jharsuguda (41.2), Sambalpur (40.8), Bhubaneswar (40.7), Boudh (40.5), Titilagarh (40.5) and Angul (40.1), Cuttack and Sundargarh ( 40 degree Celsius).
Met sources said the day temperature is very likely to rise further by 3 to 4°C over the districts of Interior Odisha during the next 4 days at many places due to Northwesterly and Westerly dry air and high solar insolation.
Meanwhile, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued an advisory to the people to take precautionary measures in view of the heat wave.
