Odisha-born Mamata Adopted by Australian Couple 15 Years Ago Searches For Biological Mother In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Mamata, a girl who was adopted by an Australian couple 15 years ago after being rescued by Childline in Puri, Odisha, is searching for her biological mother.

When Mamata was three years old, she was found near the Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri by Childline. Her mother, Basanti Das, who was suffering from leprosy, was unable to care for her and gave her up for adoption.

Mamata was placed in the Basundhara Childcare Centre in Cuttack for around 18 months before being adopted by the Australian couple.

Now 18 years old and financially stable, Mamata wants to reconnect with her poor biological mother. Childline has formed three teams to locate Basanti, who is from Khordha and only comes to Puri for alms.
