Bhubaneswar, Oct 31: As many as 71 illegal fire arms were seized by the Forest and Police personnel during the second phase of raids conducted in areas close to Similipal sanctuary in Mayurbhanja district on Tuesday.
In the first phase of raids conducted in August last as many as 156 country-made guns were seized and 26 people were arrested.
With this, the total number of firearms seized from the sanctuary went up to 227.
Police swung into action after two forest officials were killed by the poachers in Similipal in August last.
Three platoons of police force were deployed in the jungle to nab the poachers roaming scot-free and killing wild animals.
