Explosives Seized From Konark Exp at Bhubaneswar railway station defused

Bhubaneswar: Some explosive materials were spotted inside the general bogey of Konark Express by a cleaning staffer of the Railway department in Bhubaneswar station, yesterday at around 3 am.

The special bomb disposal squad today took the explosives to a riverbed and defused them with utmost care. Further investigation into the incident is currently underway.

As per sources, the explosives were spotted by a safai karamchari (cleaning staffer) of the Railways while he was cleaning a general bogie of the Konark Express which had arrived from Mumbai.

The safai karamchari immediately informed the Government Railway Police (GRP).

On being informed about it, a team of Government Railway Police (GRP) immediately reached the spot and seized the materials. The explosives were kept in a special room here and precautionary measures have already been taken to avert any untoward incident and for security reasons as well.

The seized explosives included eight red parachute signal rockets, 15 rocket parachute flares and a pathfinder Sorter.

A case in this regard has been registered by Railway Protection Force (RPF) police at Bhubaneswar station. However, the recovery of the items has put a serious question mark on the security measures at the railway stations.
