Deep depression in BoB, IMD predicts heavy rains in Odisha
Bhubaneswar, Aug 1: IMD has predicted heavy rain fall in several districts in Odisha as a depression formed over Northeast Bay of Bengal has intensified into a Deep Depression on Tuesday.
The deep depression lay centred over the northeast Bay of Bengal off Bangladesh coast near about 130 km east-southeast of Khepupara (Bangladesh) and 390 km east of Digha (West Bengal).
It is likely to move northwestwards and cross Bangladesh coast close to east of Khepupara by this evening. Thereafter, it is very likely to move west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal during subsequent 24 hours.
Meteorological department here predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm)at a few places with isolated extremely heavy falls above 20 cm very likely to occur over the several districts of Odisha.
There is a possibility of thunder with lightning activity for Tuesday and Wednesday and sounded red warning.
The IMD also predicted flash flood and water logging in low lying areas, inundation of agriculture field and landslides in vulnerable hilly areas
It further said there is a possibility of significant rise in the water level of rivers.
