Balasore: In a broad daylight dacoity, a group of miscreants allegedly looted around Rs 40 lakh and gold ornaments from Union Bank of India at Chandaneswar in Jaleswar area of Odisha’s Balasore district, today.
According to initial reports, around seven to eight miscreants entered the bank posing as customers around 1:20 pm. They looted the cash and gold ornaments worth over Rs 40 lakh after locking all the bank staff in the locker room after flashing firearms.
At gunpoint, the robbers locked up the bank staff in the locker room and then looted the cash and gold ornaments on the premises. Receiving information, police rushed to the spot. The locked-up bank staff were rescued from the locker room. Police personnel have started an investigation and a massive search operation has been launched to nab the bank robbers.
Cops were examining the CCTV footage to identify the looters. Efforts were on by them to trace and apprehend the accused.
It is being suspected that the robbers went towards West Bengal after the loot.
