Crime Branch inquiry on murder of Odisha health minister is not court-monitored- BJP

Bhubaneswar, Feb 8: The Crime Branch inquiry into the murder of Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das is not court-monitored, Odisha BJP Spokesperson and Advocate Pitambar Acharya clarified on Tuesday.

Acharya told a press conference here that the High Court has not issued any judicial direction to monitor the Crime Branch inquiry by Retired High Court Judge Justice J P Das.

He said the inquiry into Naba Kishore Das is not court-monitored and the appointment of Retired High Court Judge Justice J P Das monitoring the inquiry is illegal.

Acharya said the High Court is not the legal advisor of the state government.

The BJP leader demanded the state government give a clarification on what was written to the High Court, who wrote the letter, and on which application the High Court has ordered a judicial inquiry.

Acharaya said a conspiracy is being hatched to help the actual conspirator and murderer of former Minister Naba Kishore Das to escape.

The government, he alleged, is trying to wash its hands off a sin committed by itself by dragging a constitutional entity like the High Court into the dispute.

He said the High Court should not be made a party in such a sensitive issue.

Acharya said even ten days after the killing of the Health Minister, the Crime Branch could not reach a conclusion as to why ASI Gopal Krushna Das killed the Minister.

He said while the entire state is grief-stricken over the murder of the Minister, the BJD MLAs are preparing for the by-election. This indicates the motive of BJD, he remarked

The BJD, he alleged, has been cheating the people of the state again and again by betraying and creating an illusion, an atmosphere of fear, which is very unfortunate, he said.

The BJP leader said the role of the government in the murder of Naba Das has created many doubts in the minds of the people.

Acharya said the BJP is not politicising the murder of the former Minister but demanding a CBI inquiry into the case as its social and moral responsibility.

Meanwhile, Odisha Chhatra Pradesh Congress President Yasir Nawaz alleged that the Odisha government is trying to suppress the minister murder case and help the real murderer to escape.

The Chhatra Congress leader reiterated his party’s demand to probe the murder by a court-monitored Special Investigating Team and the resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on the issue.
