Cricket Match Turns Ugly: Umpire stabbed to death over ‘No Ball’ Decision during cricket match in Odisha’s Cuttack

A friendly cricket match here turned ugly when an umpire was allegedly killed over his ‘No Ball’ decision on Sunday. The incident occurred during a cricket match at Mahisananda under Choudwar police limits in Odisha’s Cuttack district.

The deceased was identified as Lucky Rout (22), a resident of the same locality.

According to reports, Lucky Rout was umpiring a cricket match and a dispute took place after he declared a delivery as ‘No Ball’. Soon, the dispute took a violent turn.

Some players from the fielding team allegedly attacked Rout for his decision with a bat and, subsequently, stabbed him with a knife. Rout was admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in critical condition and breathed his last during the treatment.

On being informed, Chowdar police reached the hospital and started an investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, tension ran high in the area as furious locals gheraoed the cops demanding immediate arrest of the accused.

Soon after the incident, local villagers nabbed one person and handed him over to the police. He has been detained for interrogation. A large police party has been deployed to maintain the law and order situation.
