BSF Defuse Live IED Planted By Maoists In Kalahandi

After Malkangiri, an IED blast attempt by the Maoists was thwarted by the police personnel in Kalahandi district on Monday. It is suspected that the explosives were planted by the rebels who have also called for a bandh in seven districts of Odisha.

On Sunday the security personnel unearthed a similar IED planted by the Maoists in Malkangiri district. The explosives were planted near a culvert. BSF jawans successfully defused the three-kilogram IED.

Maoists are suspected to have planted this landmine to target security personnel during their bandh call in Rayagada, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Boudh, Nayagarh and Gajapati districts. The rebels had also released an audio tape regarding this bandh call.

The IED was planted by the ultras to target the jawans and other forces in the area, sources said. The explosives were planted near a culvert and the jawans of 142 battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) jawans successfully defused the three kilograms of IED after getting information.
