Bride’s Family Calls Off Wedding As Dowry-Greedy Groom Demands Bike In Balangir

Balangir: A ‘Nikaah’ was called off in Odisha’s Balangir district after the groom allegedly demanded a two-wheeler as dowry on the wedding day.

According to reports, one Md Shaikh Qureshi’s Nikah was fixed with a girl from Sriramnagarpada in Bolangir. After reaching the wedding venue with his baraat, he and his family demanded a two-wheeler as dowry.

According to sources, Qureshi’s had not made any demands for dowry prior to the wedding. His family did not eat the dinner served to them on Thursday when the bride’s family refused to fulfil the sudden demand for a two-wheeler. As Qureshi remained adamant on his demand, the family of the bride cancelled the wedding and lodged a complaint with Town Police.

With no option left, the family of the bride cancelled the wedding and lodged a complaint at the Town Police station in Bolangir.

On the basis of the complaint, the police picked up Qureshi and his family and detained them at the police station overnight for questioning.
