Baramba Forest Range Officer Among Six Arrested For Death Of Detainee

Bhubaneswar: Athagarh Police have arrested Baramba Forest Range Officer Subrat Behera and five other Forest Department personnel in connection with the death of Dhaneswar Behera.

Dhaneswar had been detained by the Baramba forest range personnel on suspicion of his involvement in the killing of an elephant and was taken to the Tigiria watch tower for questioning. His family alleged that he died due to the injuries inflicted during the interrogation.

Atagarh SDPO Bijay Kumar Bisi said that 14 persons were detained for questioning. Out of which six, including the Ranger, have been arrested under Sections 341, 323, 354, 365, 342, 302 and 34 IPC. The police are continuing their investigation in this case.

It is pertinent to mention that Baramba Tehsildar and Athgarh SDPO had earlier assured a compensation of Rs 30,000 from the Red Cross and Rs 4,70,000 from the local administration to the next of kin of Dhaneswar. It was also assured that a job will be provided to the daughter of Dhaneswar.
