Deep Depression over BoB to intensify into a Cyclonic storm: IMD

Bhubaneswar, Oct 23: The Deep Depression over West central Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a Cyclonic Storm during next 12 hours, to India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.

The Deep Depression over West central Bay of Bengal has moved northeast wards during past 6 hours with a speed of 8 kmph and lay centered on Monday over West central Bay of Bengal, about 400 km south of Paradip (Odisha), 550 km south-southwest of Digha (West Bengal) and 690 km south-southwest of Khepupara (Bangladesh) this morning.

It is likely to intensify into a Cyclonic Storm during next 12 hours and move nearly north-northeastwards and cross Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Chittagong

IMD sources said the cyclonic storm is very likely to move nearly north-northeastwards and cross Bangladesh coast between Khepupara and Chittagong around October 25 evening as a Deep Depression.

Under its impact light to moderate rain/thundershowers is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Odisha till October 27.

In view of light to moderate rainfall activity over coastal districts of Odisha, ongoing harvesting of matured paddy crops (early to medium duration variety) and vegetables may be completed and stored in safe places, the Met officials stated .

IMD sources further said the squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is prevailing and likely to become 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph from Monday evening.

It would become Gale wind speed reaching 60- 70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph on October 24 while the squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely from October 23 evening to October 24 along & off Odisha coast.

Squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph is very likely till 25th October over West central Bay of Bengal, Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely over North Bay of Bengal off Odisha Coast on October 23 and it likely to increase gradually becoming Gale wind speed reaching 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph from October 24 October 26 over north Bay of Bengal & squally wind speed 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph is very likely along and off Odisha coast.

Sea condition will be rough to very rough over west central Bay of Bengal till October 25th and will be rough on October 23 becoming very rough to high from October 24 to October 26 over North Bay of Bengal.

The Fishermen are advised not to venture into West central Bay of Bengal till October 25 along and off Odisha coast and north Bay of Bengal during October 23 October 26.

Fishermen who are in the deep sea have been advised to return to the coast.
