Where is equality under any political regime including the BJP

Mobilenews24x7 Bureau

Promises by politics about equality among people cutting across many divides sounds so shrill when we get to see what happens on the ground.

Going back to the epoch making French revolution which propounded that equality is a value on which support exist ‘liberty and fraternity’.

Even in India there were similar values in politics but slowly the principles got diluted and was found that it was not possible.

It is in this light that we need to analyse and evaluate the idea of equality as propounded and practised by the Bhartiya Janata Party, which is the most dominant party of the day in our country.

But in India the BJP appear running a consistent campaign opposed to the treatment to a particular minority. Which has already reached a explosive situation in a way.

Philosophical doctrine of ‘formal equality’ prescribes equality among all. Although there have been some such inequalities did existed for years in history.

Let us not blame the BJP alone as even under other dispensations there were noticeable approaches from the political dispensations opposing or favouring certain religious groups or communities.

Sachar Committee Report, 2006 highlighted the instances of flawed campaign about equal treatment and it is fact that special treatment for ST and SC and other backward classes was greatly successful.

The question comes to debates when one sees the BJP as a dogged advocate for gender equality that led to many changes.

For instances when the Supreme Court said that the Triple Talak as ‘violative’ it gave a boost to women empowerment.

Many experts and religious authorities have described the men in that community just break a relation with three words and do not compensate the woman so they are still there where they were.

Baffling

The stand taken by the BJP-led Centre in the SC on same-sex marriage, where it opposed the idea arguing that same-sex marriages are not in compliance with the Indian family and marriage system, has further revealed the party’s inadequate and incomplete understanding of gender equality.
