Tripura to build Pink Toilets in urban areas for women
Agartala, Aug 31 : Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday announced his government has decided to construct Pink Toilets in urban areas of the state to ensure hygienic public washrooms.
“We have separate public toilets for females in Agartala Municipal Corporation area and a few other urban areas but it doesn’t ensure adequate hygiene for the users; therefore, in the last budget we have provisioned funds for the construction of pink Toilets in cities and the towns,” Saha said.
The specially designed toilets would easily be recognisable from a distance and be equipped with all female-friendly amenities. Besides ensuring all basic amenities for women in public places, the government is committed to zeroing down on crime against women and steps have already been taken to ensure stringent punishment for any such crimes, he said.
“Along with an administrative action plan, we are sensitising the people about women’s safety and upholding the respect for females. As a brother, I am dedicated to ensuring the well-being of women, including providing comprehensive security and enhancing their socio-economic status. My government is addressing these issues with utmost seriousness,” the Chief Minister underscored.
The state government is actively promoting the economic and social development of women through the formation of Self Help Groups (SHGs) according to the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards the holistic development of women.
