Thousands of Anganwadi workers stage demonstration before Odisha Assembly

Bhubaneswar, Sep 22 : Thousands of Anganwadi workers on Friday held a demonstration before the Odisha Assembly in support of their 9-point charter of demands.
The agitated Anganwadi workers under the banner of All Odisha Anganwadi Ladies Workers Association marched to the state Assembly and held a protest demonstration at the Lower PMG on the inaugural day of the monsoon session of the state Assembly.
The demands included Rs.18,000 salary per month to all Anganwadi workers, Rs 9,000 monthly salary to the anganwadi helpers ,Rs 5 lakh after retirement and a monthly pension of Rs.5000 besides the status of the pre primary teacher.
In November last, the Anganwadi workers had staged demonstrations in the state capital for 48 long days in support of their demands which was called off after the government promised them to consider their demands.
They resorted to agitation and gathered before the state Assembly as the government did not fulfill their demands as promised.
The demonstration was led by Odisha Anganwadi Ladies Workers Association President Sumita Mohapatra who threatened that the state government will be responsible for the consequences if it did not consider their demands.
