Mumbai, Sep 23: (Updated) Expressing concern over the increasing number of farmer suicides in Maharashtra, NCP (Sharad Pawar) state president Jayant Patil on Friday regretted that the country is celebrating Amritkal when farmers are committing suicide.
Taking to his his social media handle X, Patil stated that six farmers have committed suicide in the last two days after heavy rains ruined their standing crops.
He criticised the government for its failure to stand by the farmers.
He said they took loans and planted crops, but due to heavy rain, the land was eroded.

“It is a real failure of the government that desperate farmers found it easy to end their lives,” he said.

It has come to light that 1584 farmers have committed suicide in Vidarbha in the last nine months which is the highest in the last 25 years.
