New Delhi, Jan 15 (UNI) Former world champion PV Sindhu bowed out of the India Open after suffering a defeat in the semifinal on Saturday.

Sindhu lost 14-21, 21-13, 10-21 to Supanida Katethong of Thailand here at the KD Jadhav Hall.

The Indian ace seemed to be struggling in the opening game as Katethong went to the break with 11-6 advantage.

After the break, Sindhu did make a comeback but the lead Katethong had was too big to beat and the Thai shuttler wrapped up the opening game 21-14.

Sindhu fought back in the second set and went on to break with slender 11-10 lead at the mid-game interval.

The Indian shuttler took a massive seven points advantage after the break to clinch the second game 21-13 and the match went in to decider.

The third game witnessed a close contest before Katethong took 11-7 lead at the time of interval. Later, the Thai shuttler dominated the entire game and walked away with an easy win.

In the men’s doubles, star duo of Satwik Sairaj and Chirag Shetty registered a comfortable 21-10, 21-18 win over French pair of Fabien Delrue and William Villeger.

The Indian duo will lock horns with top seed Indonesian pair of Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan in the finals.

In another women’s singles contest, Aakarshi Kashyap bowed out after losing 24-26, 21-9 to Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan.

Kashyap gave a great fight to the Thai shuttler in the opening set but she failed to capitalise the game point opportunity and ended up losing the set. In the second game, the Indian lost her control and Busanan took it with an ease to march through to the finals.
